In Episode 37 of Career Chinwags for the 21st Century Catherine starts with a true ‘career war story’, and take-away lessons learnt from this: In this case, her war story relates to how important your communication style is in an interview. She discussed the 4 styles based on Carl Jung’s theory “I Speak Your Language” which asserts that under stress i.e. a job interview, most of us favour one of four basic communication styles, with the problem being that people by far prefer to listen to someone with their own communication style.

Next, she offers a tip on how to start of your interview confidently and how it all begins in Reception. She talks through the power pose, your posture, your body language, your walk and how all these elements play a crucial role in how you will feel throughout the interview (and ultimately your interview success).

Lastly, she talks through a famous quote by Scott Peck ‘Our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers’. She relates this quote to interview skills – and how much of a shame it would be to miss out on a role because you’re not ‘game’ enough to practice.
